Why We Include a Smart Thermostat With Every System We Install

A new furnace or air conditioner is a significant purchase, and the thermostat is usually an afterthought. It should not be. The thermostat decides when your equipment runs, and in a climate with a six-month heating season, that decision gets made a lot.

So we include a Honeywell T5 WiFi smart thermostat with every complete furnace or AC installation. Professionally installed, wired and configured before we leave. No extra cost, and no separate trip.

The setback is worth more here than most places

The core value of a programmable thermostat is the setback: letting the temperature drift while you are asleep or out of the house, then bringing it back before you notice. It is the least painful way to cut a heating bill, because you are not present for the part where the house is cooler.

In a mild climate that saves you money for two or three months a year. Chicago runs its furnace roughly six months a year. The same setback, applied over twice the season, is worth roughly twice as much.

What the T5 does

• Weekly scheduling, so weekdays and weekends can run differently without you touching anything.

• Remote control from your phone. Useful when plans change, and genuinely useful if you travel in winter and want to confirm the house has not dropped to freezing.

• Filter change reminders. This one quietly protects the equipment. A clogged filter is the most common cause of service calls we see, and the reminder removes the guesswork.

• Usage reporting, so you can see where the heating and cooling money is actually going instead of guessing from the bill.

Why we install it rather than hand it to you

A smart thermostat that is wired wrong or never configured is just an expensive wall decoration. A surprising number of them sit on hold or on default settings for years because setup got postponed.
